The teaser to the drama is so pretty, and yet, I’m not sure if I want to watch it T_T
Ji Soo (My First First Love) and Im Soo-hyang (Graceful Family) stars in upcoming drama ‘When I Was the Prettiest’ — a drama centered around the intense, unfortunate, and cruel love triangle between Im Soo-hyang’s character, Oh Ye-jin, and brothers Seo-hwan (Ji Soo) and Seo Jin (Ha Suk-jin). Added into the mix is Carry Jung (Hwang Seung-un), Seo Jin’s ex-girlfriend who’s still very much in love with him and can’t seem to let him go even after their breakup.
I like everyone in the cast (especially Ji Soo and Hwang Seung-un) so I think I would have been more inclined to watch this show if it wasn’t about a love triangle between two brothers. Love triangles involving two family members is a trope that I never enjoyed in the first place because of how iffy it is when two siblings are in love with the same person, but I think I’m also traumatized after watching it firsthand happen in ‘Dae Jang-geum is Watching.’ I did not enjoy it in that drama and I definitely will not enjoy it in here. Sadly, I don’t think even the execution of the love triangle will change anything for me; I’m just not a big fan of love triangles involving family members. It’s a shame because based on the first teaser for the drama, everything looks so pretty and soft and yet I already can sense some level of pain, heartbreak, and suffering from the video. It seems as if Ji Soo’s character met and had a crush on Im Soo-hyang’s character back when he was still in high school.
‘When I Was the Prettiest’ is directed by Oh Kyung-hoon whose works include ‘Bad Thief, Good Thief’ while the writer is Jo Hyoun-Kyoung whose other projects include ‘Grand Prince’ (which now makes a lot more sense!). The drama is slated to air on MBC in August.
