Oh man, oh man, oh man. This review of this week’s episodes for ‘Moving’ comes in fresh as I just finished watching episodes 12 and 13 a few minutes ago. And wow, just wow. I have so many thoughts and so many things to say. If I could summarize my feelings for these two episodes, I’d have to say that they probably are my favorite episodes so far from the drama.
Episodes 12 and 13 continued with where we left off last time with the intense confrontation involving Doo-sik and Mi-hyun. We also got more context into Ju-won’s life with his wife, Ji-hee, as well as the incident that ultimately led to her unfortunate death. Episode 12 focused on Doo-sik and Mi-hyun and showed us what life was like for them as both lovers and parents. They eventually found each other again and fell in love. They also formed a family and moved to the countryside to protect themselves and Bong-seok from their former agency. Life seemed to be going well for them and the parents seemed to be genuinely happy. They were safe, they felt okay, they felt as if things were peaceful and calm. Of course, they were always on high alert but for the most part, Doo-sik and Mi-hyun felt as if life was good. But, of course, the peace and calm never lasted for long and they found themselves in another dangerous situation. We eventually got to witness how Mi-hyun escaped with Bong-seok and became a single mother raising her son alone. Doo-sik sacrificed his life for his family so that they could escape and disappeared afterwards.
‘Moving’ is always moving so you’re never really sure which direction they’re going to go in next so it was such a nice and pleasant surprise to see the drama go the route of more flashbacks. We had 4 episodes of flashbacks so far which I’ve relatively enjoyed but I really enjoyed the flashbacks in episodes 12 and 13. Not only were the episodes good and intriguing and action-packed and entertaining – they were also necessary in the storytelling and in showing us how Ju-won and Mi-hyun got to where they were in the present timeline. We watched how things unfolded for Mi-hyun that led her to travel from location to location alone with Bong-seok. We witnessed how things unfolded for Ju-won and how he came to raise Hui-soo alone after discovering the tragic news about his wife. Episodes 12 and 13 connected back to what we saw in the earlier episodes and I loved how it all came together. I didn’t know if the drama was going to go this route or if it was, if it was going to do it anytime soon so I’m glad the drama eventually came around to showing the connections.
Continuing with episode 12, I found the episode to be a breath of fresh air in that I wasn’t as stressed watching it for the most part. It was adorable watching Mi-hyun and Doo-sik eventually find their way back to each other and fall in love and then form a family and raise Bong-seok. I also thought the drama was phenomenal in showing how both parents discovered Bong-seok’s power and how their son inherited his dad’s superpower to fly. The dream that Bong-seok had repeatedly of his dad appeared once again in this episode and I loved that the drama gave us more context behind this dream and what the story behind it actually was. As adorable as this episode was, I got nervous and anxious towards the end when the agents came after Mi-hyun and Doo-sik. Doo-sik was separated from Mi-hyun once again and there was no knowing what happened to him or where he was. Did he get killed? Where did they take him? What happened to him? There’s another cloud of mystery surrounding Doo-sik’s whereabouts (again) and the uncertainty is killing me.

Whereas episode 12 centered around Doo-sik and Mi-hyun, episode 13 revolved around Ju-won and his relationship with Ji-hee. Though not as groundbreaking of an episode for me as episode 12, episode 13 was just as important and crucial because it gave us insight into what post-agent life was like for Ju-won. The episode showed us the challenges that Ju-won had trying to be “normal” and to assimilate into society as a civil servant like many of his other co-workers. He wasn’t happy, he was doubtful, he felt like he didn’t serve a purpose, he felt like he wasn’t useful or helpful at all. And he tried to live this type of life and lifestyle for both him and Ji-hee’s sake but it just didn’t make him happy. Eventually, he returned to his old lifestyle as an agent which took up most of his time and caused his relationship with Ji-hee to become neglected over time. Despite the concerns that Ji-hee had about their rocky relationship, she was supportive of Ju-won the entire time and encouraged him to go after his dreams and to do whatever it was that he wanted. It’s heartbreaking that she died in a car accident in the end because I really liked her character, who she was as a person and wife and mom, and just how kind and supportive she was overall. There was so much good in her as well as in her relationship with Ju-won. They came from their own respective backgrounds but they never judged each other. They truly liked each other for who they were and this common trait allowed their relationship to blossom. There was respect and there was trust. And you saw just how detrimental and devastating Ji-hee’s death was for Ju-won. Thankfully, Hui-soo survived (since she has his superpowers) but Ji-hee was just as important to Ju-won and she was the rock in his life. She loved him so much and in so many ways and she loved him for him and she was always by his side. Ji-hee was literally and will always be the love of Ju-won’s life.
While watching episode 13, a part of me also thought about the premise of the drama and how I would love to watch another drama similar to ‘Moving’ where we just watch the day-to-day lives of people with superpowers. Can you imagine watching a drama with characters like Ju-won, Mi-hyun, and Doo-sik going about their own lives being superheroes and saving people’s lives while also protecting their family and kids? ‘Moving’ is obviously a much more gritty, serious, and action-packed drama, but I also wouldn’t mind watching a similar drama with similar characters that’s a bit more feel-good and light-hearted. That’s how much episode 13 moved me as I was watching it. I would have loved to see more Ju-won with his family and more Mi-hyun with her family without there being any deaths, car accidents, or secret agents.
I feel like I say this often every week but I’m curious as to what next week’s episodes are going to cover. Maybe there’ll be more flashbacks, maybe we’ll return to the present timeline, maybe the drama will choose another character to cast into the spotlight. Regardless, episodes 12 and 13 were my favorite episodes so far and I’ll probably find myself going back to rewatch these two episodes. They left me breathless and they also left me wanting for more.
