Castaway Diva Episode 10: Answers vs. Risks

On the night when Bo-geol returned back home with a bruised and scarred face, Daddy Kang privately met with Mok-ha to hand her some medicine to treat Bo-geol with. He also spoke with her on the family’s current situation. What should he and his family do? Though Mok-ha doesn’t know too much, she recalls Bo-geol’s comment about how lying only makes things worse. It causes your weakness to grow. So Daddy Kang reaches the conclusion to confess and come clean to both the police and Woo-hak. Turns out Daddy Kang had been lying about taking flower arrangement classes and had been using that time to go to the police instead.

Mok-ha and Mommy Kang are the only ones at the salon but it doesn’t last for long. Ki-ho’s father shows up unexpectedly and both ladies are frightened at the sight of the man. Mok-ha buys time by distracting Ki-ho to buy her some of her favorite dumpling soup. Ki-ho’s father demands for Mommy Kang, Bo-geol, and Woo-hak to move back home with him or else he’ll report them to the police. Mok-ha doesn’t waste any time in calling the police to report Ki-ho’s father. Right at that moment, Woo-hak and Daddy Kang show up and Ki-ho’s father comes close to attacking Daddy Kang. Mok-ha stops him just in time and is shoved down onto the ground. Just when she’s the next target, Woo-hak comes to Mok-ha’s rescue and takes his father down. But he’s stopped by his parents from doing any further damage to his biological father.

When Bo-geol arrives home, he finds Mok-ha waiting in the salon for him. Woo-hak’s with his parents at the hospital for a shoulder injury but he should recover just fine. The tension and adrenaline from earlier is too overwhelming for Mok-ha and she faints into Bo-geol’s arms. So he carries her up to her room where she slightly wakes up. Mok-ha now understands why Bo-geol was so secretive about his biological father. His father doesn’t deserve any of Bo-geol’s emotions, time, or energy. Bo-geol should forget about his father and erase him from his mind completely. Bo-geol listens as he sits by Mok-ha with her hand in his (I swear, Bo-geol and Mok-ha are too much for me! They’re the sweetest).

Ki-ho’s father is arrested while the car that was found in the river is pulled out. Sure enough, there are 4 bodies and the names of the deceased match Bo-geol and his family. News coverage about Bo-geol and his family’s identity theft is released and it becomes big news. Even customers of the salon gather outside the building to gossip about the family but Mok-ha comes to their defense. If they really were loyal customers, they should be supporting Mommy Kang instead of bringing up false rumors about her and her family. Bo-geol watches from his bedroom window as Mok-ha stands up for him and his family.

Mok-ha discusses next steps with Woo-hak while helping him with his shoulder injury that he sustained from protecting Mok-ha the other night. What can they do to make sure that his father is put behind bars? Woo-hak answers that they’ll need an outside witness who can support the family’s statement about Woo-hak’s father. And that person will have to be none other than Mok-ha. Mok-ha must not go easy on her statement. Ki-ho’s father assumes he could use his connection with his detective acquaintance to wiggle his way out of things but his acquaintance isn’t so lenient this time. Ki-ho’s father is still accused of committing some crimes such as stalking and he won’t be let go so easily. Even if Ki-ho’s father claims that he did everything that he did to reunite with his family, it doesn’t erase what he did. His detective acquaintance is clear and cut with him (OHHHHH! You love to see it!). Young-ju is still pushing for justice for her husband, Dae-woong. But the only way they’ll be able to come after Ki-ho’s father is if they have a victim statement by Dae-woong and that doesn’t seem as likely since he’s still unconscious in the hospital.

CEO Lee heads to a cafe with some colleagues after a day of golf. There, he greets a former colleague whose face he recognizes but whose name he doesn’t remember. Hmm. Ran-joo has been working hard to produce Mok-ha’s album. Before she can proceed with terminating her contract, there’s something she wants to check. Bo-geol and Woo-hak are summoned to the police station for an interrogation. While discussing what tactics they’re going to use once there, Bo-geol receives a phone call from Ran-joo who asks him about Mok-ha. Ran-joo learns that Mok-ha did run away and quit her dreams of becoming a singer that one time as a way to protect Bo-geol and his family.

So Ran-joo meets up with Mok-ha at a record shop that holds a special memory for her. She was brought to the place by her mother and CEO Hwang back when she was younger and the three talked to the owner who was a fortune-teller of some sorts. Artists who visited her and walked away with a special item ended up succeeding. So what about Ran-joo? Will she also succeed? What would she give up for the special item? Ran-joo reflects on this moment with Mok-ha and she answers that she said she would give up all her money for the item. They flip the subject back to Mok-ha. It’s now Mok-ha’s turn. Is she willing to give up her relationship with Bo-geol and his family to achieve her dreams of becoming a singer? Ran-joo will produce Mok-ha’s album as long as she cuts off ties with Bo-geol given the scandal and situation that he and his family are in. Mok-ha attempts to defend Bo-geol and his family but Ran-joo isn’t pleased. She wants an answer by the next day. Before exiting, Ran-joo hands over the item to Bo-geol who was also called to the record shop by Ran-joo to listen in on the conversation. Of course, Mok-ha had no idea that Bo-geol was there and had heard everything.

Bo-geol comes up with a plan to protect Mok-ha. He moves into a studio and sets everything up for her. Mok-ha does some thinking of her own and she packs up her belongings to move out of her rooftop room. The one thing she left behind? The shoes that young Ki-ho gave her 15 years ago. But it’s too much for Mok-ha and she can’t bear the thought of leaving behind the shoes that meant so much to her so she returns to the room to retrieve them. Just as she packs the precious shoes, Bo-geol comes into the room to pay her a visit. He quickly understands what’s going on so Mok-ha comes up with a bunch of excuses as to why she’s moving out. The two eventually get into the car and drive silently to the new place that Bo-geol set up for her. He originally got it back in the beginning when she was discovered on the island and she now gets to use it.

But Mok-ha doesn’t feel so great about moving into this new place. She’ll be seen as someone who used Bo-geol and his family. But Bo-geol doesn’t mind. She should put huge effort into achieving her dreams of becoming a singer and when times are hard, she can return to the rooftop room for a change in scenery. Just like he did 15 years ago, Bo-geol reminds Mok-ha that he will always be there for her. She can come back to him anytime. Bo-geol hands the special item from the record shop over to Mok-ha and she breaks down into tears upon realizing that Bo-geol was present during that meeting. Ran-joo receives an update from Bo-geol and signs the termination contract shortly afterwards.

The rest of the family learn about Mok-ha’s situation the next morning during breakfast. Woo-hak isn’t so thrilled upon hearing the news and he goes upstairs to the rooftop room. Daddy Kang follows after him to comfort him. Woo-hak confesses that he liked Mok-ha and couldn’t help when it came to his feelings. He cries at the thought of Mok-ha leaving and Daddy Kang hugs his son to console him.

Ran-joo hands over her termination form to CEO Lee. She then proceeds to help Mok-ha with her album who’s a little awkward on the first day in the recording studio. With some helpful tips from Ran-joo, Mok-ha quickly gets into the hang of things and she records her song for her album. Bo-geol and his family are interrogated by the police to admit to their crime. Bo-geol and Woo-hak also resign from their jobs. Things just aren’t the same with Bo-geol and Mok-ha no longer in each other’s lives.

Ran-joo is excited for Mok-ha and she puts extra time and effort into Mok-ha’s first music video. She has full faith and confidence in Mok-ha and knows that things will turn out fine. But just when it seems like everything is going well, a crisis hits. A reporter – the same person who greeted CEO Lee back at the cafe earlier in this episode – writes an article about Ran-joo and whether she chose to perform for her mentee, Mok-ha, or for RJ Entertainment’s shares. Both Ran-joo and Mok-ha panic upon reading the article and they meet with CEO Lee and Manager Park to discuss the situation. Ran-joo and Mok-ha are willing to risk their own reputation to protect the other so they talk things out. Mok-ha stands her ground and admits that she won’t be risking her dreams of becoming a singer to protect Ran-joo. They both can become the best at all costs. Back when Mok-ha was on the deserted island, she faced a do-or-die situation. She had to learn to swim in the ocean to find food and fish or else she would die. And Mok-ha did what she had to do to survive. It was all or nothing and she went all in.

Mommy Kang exhibits similar behavior regarding her situation with her family. Prosecutors want to cross-examine the family with Ki-ho’s father. Though they’re worried about how Mommy Kang might feel, she accepts the request. They should do it. No more running away. Dae-woong also finally exhibits some signs of life. He’s awake and he’s alive. The end is near for Ki-ho’s father.
