[Discuss Away!] When the Stars Gossip: Episodes 3-4

“When the Stars Gossip” amped up the danger and risks in episodes 3 and 4 and boy was it a wild ride!

While Eve was the one who saved Gong Ryong’s life in episode 1, it was Gong Ryong who saved Eve’s life in episode 4. They’re each other’s life saver and in the process, this caused them to develop feelings for each other. Of course, Eve denied any idea of having feelings for Gong Ryong and refused to acknowledge these thoughts. She was conflicted on how to feel or think. But as we saw at the end of episode 4, Gong Ryong was a lot more direct in his approach and we got a romantic confession out of him! I definitely was not expecting one so soon. I knew it would eventually happen, but I would have liked the back and forth yearning and confusion for just two more episodes. We saw Gong Ryong’s side of things in the past few episodes, but we finally got a glimpse of Eve’s feelings in episode 4 and I wished he didn’t confess so soon. No need to rush things! However, I do think Gong Ryong’s confession is consistent with his personality traits as he is someone who’s impulsive and risky. He does things his way.

I definitely enjoyed the more “human” scenes, such as in episode 3 when Gong Ryong and Eve chatted about her will. He asked if they could meet back when they were on earth which hinted at his interest in her. She’s someone who he wants in his life; she’s someone who he wants to keep in contact with even after everything is over. Granted, Gong Ryong did this because he had feelings for Eve but I also want to think he put the idea out there because he simply wants her involved in his life even if it’s just as a friend. Then there was also the scene where Gong Ryong drank with Seung-jun and Santi which was nice to see. It was nice to see more of Santi since he has the least amount of screen time among all the supporting characters and it was cool to watch the three bond with one another.

I think something that I’ve realized and will eventually become accustomed to is tempering expectations when it comes to all the dangerous happenings out in the space station. Eve’s life was in extreme danger and she was close to dying and then, of course, Gong Ryong jumped out to assist her and rescue her. The drama does have to entertain viewers somehow so I understand why these types of things happen. I still enjoy this drama – I just accept that things aren’t going to be the most realistic out in the space station and I have to overlook these types of situations. Don’t take the drama too seriously or expect it to be realistic and you’ll find that the drama is entertaining. It’s actually pretty fun!

We saw Eve save Gong Ryong’s life in episode 1, then there was the mouse operation in episode 2, then in episodes 3 and 4 we got the intense space walk. It seems as if there’s something dangerous and risky that will happen every episode combined with progress for all the other sub-plots (Gong Ryong getting the eggs back, the lottery ticket, etc.). The drama gotta keep us busy and engaged at all times somehow! I am a little worried there may be too many things happening all at once given how we’re still in the beginning of the drama (leave some of those things for the second half!). But like how I felt with episodes 1 and 2, I have to commend the drama for finding new ways to keep us entertained and engaged every weekend. It just leaves you wondering: what will happen out there next?
