Oooo, I like this one quite a bit!
“Tastefully Yours” stars Kang Ha-neul as Han Beom-woo, the successor of a large food company and Go Min-si as Mo Yeon-joo, the owner and chef of a restaurant located in an isolated corner in the countryside. Together, the two work together to run a restaurant and eventually fall in love the more they get to know each other.
In all honesty, I wasn’t so sure I was feeling the drama when I finished the first episode. It felt a little dry with little to no music and not a whole lot going on. I wasn’t quite sure what it was going for and I was afraid that the drama, which I was looking forward to, would turn out to be another “The Potato Lab.” But thankfully, episode 2 picked up and got so much better. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised at how much of an improvement episode 2 was from the first episode. It sort of felt as if I had just watched two different dramas. Episode 2 was so much fun and we got so much progress in just an hour. I would argue that we got too much progress in just one single episode but I’m also glad that there was plenty of stuff going on in the episode at least.
I’m curious if the drama plans on diving into Yeon-joo’s background and her backstory as a chef and restaurant owner. How did she learn to cook? Why did she want to become a chef and restaurant owner? How did she end up where she was? I wanted to know more about her story and I’m really hoping that it’s something the drama dives into in the future. We got a whole lot of Beom-woo, the desperate situation he found himself in to the point where he paired up with Yeon-joo and worked with her, his impatience with newest recruit Myeong-sook, and also his determination and wit to make sure that the restaurant succeeds. He’s quite an interesting and fierce character (which makes the thought of him falling for Yeon-joo is even more exciting, hehe).
Though I liked that the second episode had plenty of stuff going on, I wished all the content we got in the first two episodes was expanded into four episodes. I wanted to see more of Yeon-joo’s backstory and her cooking different dishes for Beom-woo. I wanted to see more of them bickering back and forth with each other. I wanted to see more of Yeon-joo going about her daily life and how she was able to form a connection with Myeong-sook to the point where Myeong-sook decided to work for her. They had one interaction with each other and then Myeong-sook was recruited the very next second. I was a little sad at how fast the pacing was because I really enjoyed everything so much and wanted the drama to slow down just a tad bit so that we could get more of every little thing.
But with that being said, the drama had so much fun being so much fun. I liked that Myeong-sook was added into the picture to join Beom-woo and Yeon-joo. It was nice to have someone else on the team who contributed fun and humor to the group dynamic. I also loved seeing Beom-woo already bond with our vegetable store and butcher store owners. I wasn’t expecting him to make friends so soon so I liked that the drama gave him something else outside of running the restaurant with Yeon-joo. Here he was in this desperate situation so he made the most out of his time there by meeting new people, making new friends, and using those connections to benefit the restaurant. He’s already fitting in well with the villagers. I also loved the push-and-pull dynamic between Beom-woo and Yeon-joo. They both need each other to succeed individually but they both are strong-headed and confident so they clash often. The contract scene in the beginning of episode 2 where Yeon-joo tore the contract apart only for Beom-woo to print out multiple copies and hand them over was so funny. Then the scene where they communicated telepathically with each other over Myeong-sook’s addition to the team was also another great interaction between the two. Not only is their dynamic fun and humorous so far, the drama also knows how to elevate these interactions and make them look fun (I loved the text/words popping on the screen when they were communicating telepathically. It’s a nice little touch that adds some fun and flavor.. pun intended, hehe).

It’s always fun to watch your two main characters start off on a bad note as enemies and then eventually transition into lovers. Yeon-joo and Beom-woo definitely did not start off on good terms but we already saw a small shift in their relationship at the end of episode 2 (please slow down a little bit, drama! I’m begging!). Though the two may be business partners for now, Beom-woo and Yeon-joo will eventually get to know each other better, develop feelings for each other, and fall in love. At that point, will Beom-woo be able to run away from Yeon-joo? Or will he abandon his original intentions and plan and partner up with her forever? I’m so happy, satisfied, and relieved with how refreshing and fun “Tastefully Yours” started off as. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the next two episodes unfold and if the drama will be able to keep this momentum going. I now have a reason to look forward to the start of every week. “Tastefully Yours”, please don’t disappoint!
