Another winter has passed which means the boys are back in business! Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung are back again with another season of their hit variety show, ‘Unexpected Business’, and have returned bigger and better. Literally. The new store that they have inherited for 10 days is five times as big as their old one from the first season and even includes a butcher/meat shop! Then there’s all the other things that remain constant from season one such as the convenience store aspect as well as Chef Jo’s food show in the kitchen. There’s plenty of new challenges for the two store owners as well as new exciting guests.
I was not caught up with news about the second season so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that there were already two episodes released. Of course, one of the highlights of the show includes the special guests that Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung invite to assist them with the store. Last season’s guests included stars like Park Bo-young (AKA my most favorite person in the world) along with other actors like Yoon Shi-yoon, Nam Joo-hyuk, and Park Byung-eun. Season 2 does not disappoint with its lineup of guests whose names includes Lee Kwang-soo, Kim Woo-bin, Lim Ju-hwan, Han Hyo-joo, and Kim Hye-soo just to name a few. And of course, me being the ‘Running Man’ fan that I am, I just knew I had to check out Lee Kwang-soo’s appearance in the show. Any special appearance of him on a variety show is a must watch for me.

Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung’s close circle of friends is quite well-known in the entertainment industry so it came as no surprise that Kwang-soo, Kim Woo-bin, and Lim Ju-hwan were the first guests in the second season. I’m actually sort of glad that they were the opening guests. Similar to season one with Park Bo-young, Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung probably invite their closer friends to be the first guests on the show so that they can feel the most comfortable and also get a feel of things. They were easily and clearly comfortable around Park Bo-young in the start of season one and they give off the same feelings in this second season. Having Lee Kwang-soo, Kim Woo-bin, and Lim Ju-hwan around definitely did not disappoint.

It’s nice to see Kim Woo-bin back on the screen again after what was a hiatus due to his health. This is a perfect teaser and preview to what will be much more Kim Woo-bin with his comeback drama ‘Our Blues’ airing on tvN in April. Lim Ju-hwan seems a bit more quiet with his appearance so far on the show, but he definitely works hard in the kitchen, is fast to pick up on stuff, and is quite an expert when it comes to meat and cutting meat and all that good stuff. Of course, Lee Kwang-soo remains such a gem every time and I loved watching him just do his thing on the show. He’s so incredibly funny, but he’s so kind and respectful and just a good human being overall. It’s not everyday that we get to see these five guys on screen together at the same time so it’s a bit fascinating, interesting, and entertaining to see the group’s dynamic and what their roles in their friendship circle are. Just based off of my observation so far, I’d say I’m probably more of the Kim Woo-bin in the group: the first one to laugh and react to what anyone says.

I wasn’t the most caught up with all the episodes in season one to be honest and I think it’ll be the same with season two. I don’t follow all the special guests so I’ll probably only tune in for the episodes with the guests who I do like (AKA I’ll watch the episode with Kim Hye-soo). Even with the alternating guest appearances and the help of some friends, the basic premise of the show remains the same: watching store owners Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung figure out along the way how to operate their business. It definitely makes for an entertaining watch and the first two episodes of the show definitely passed by faster than I thought. It’s even greater to watch the show while you’re eating something so you’re not starving when Chef Jo is cooking up his special snow crab ramyeon for his customers. All in all, episodes one and two of ‘Unexpected Business’ season 2 delivered which is not unexpected. I mean, it is Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung we’re talking about here and something tells me that this season will be yet another success – if not, even more successful than its first season.
