Jeong-suk’s made it clear to In-ho now on what she wants and how she feels. How will the rest of the family feel when they also learn the news? Will Jeong-suk change her mind and go back on her words or will she stay true to herself and do what she thinks is best for herself?

Doctor Cha: Episode 13 Recap

Jeong-suk shares her plans to divorce In-ho. She’s fine with being parents to their two kids but she recognizes and acknowledges that their relationship as husband and wife is over. It’s been over. In-ho falls over and faints as a response to the shocking news. Mother-in-law, I-rang, and Jung-min rush over to In-ho’s side to wake him up and after a quick check-up, Jeong-suk realizes that In-ho is fine. After the kitchen incident, Jeong-suk and In-ho have another talk in their bedroom where In-ho begs for Jeong-suk’s forgiveness. But Jeong-suk is adamant on getting a divorce and she no longer wants to be with In-ho. Mother-in-law, I-rang, and Jung-min barge into the room after eavesdropping on their conversation. Mother-in-law is in disbelief that the married couple is divorcing.

The divorce conversation prompts Mother-in-law to be reminded of Seung-hi and she encourages In-ho to just end things with Seung-hi and get their relationship over with. But when Mother-in-law learns about the potential amount of money that Seung-hi could have inherited from her late father, she slightly grows interested in having Seung-hi as a daughter-in-law. While In-ho and his mom have a private talk, Jeong-suk chats with Jung-min and I-rang about the divorce. Jeong-suk is confident that Jung-min will succeed because he’s an adult who can take care of himself and he can stay at the resident dorms and focus on his residency. Meanwhile, I-rang can take some time to decide on whether or not she’d like to move in with Jeong-suk or stay with In-ho. She apologizes to her two kids and they all share a warm hug. I-rang and Jung-min exit the bedroom together but I-rang shortly hears her mother crying in her bedroom afterwards 🙁

The next morning, In-ho removes the disability sticker on his car – the final straw for Jeong-suk that made her initiate the divorce. After dropping off some breakfast outside of Jeong-suk’s resident dorms, he learns from Chief Yoon that Ji-seon’s parents no longer plan on suing Jung-min. It was all thanks to Roy who took the time to talk to Ji-seon’s parents about her health. Jeong-suk learns the news through Roy herself at work that day and she sheds tears of relief while listening to his story. Jung-min attended Ji-seon’s funeral and apologized to Ji-seon’s parents. Roy also came by to explain to them about Ji-seon’s cancer and how it was difficult to treat. Ji-seon’s parents eventually forgave Jung-min for his actions and retreated from suing Jung-min. Jeong-suk is grateful to Roy for his help and support but there’s only one thing that he wants from Jeong-suk: for her to receive her usual check-up. It’s about time that she “come back” to him (OMGEEEE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE. I am not falling for this! You can’t fool me, ‘Doctor Cha’!).

When Jeong-suk goes back to work, she’s reminded of a conversation she had with Ji-seon. Ji-seon was aware that she was going to die but she wanted to give birth and save the baby. She also gave her dad a hint as to who the baby of the father was. In-ho suffers at work with Jeong-suk’s wish for a divorce. He can barely concentrate and the exhaustion is really getting to him. He even asks for Jung-min to talk to his mom but Jung-min isn’t so forgiving or helpful. During lunch time, Chief Lim and Chief Yoon go at it again with each other (hahaha). In-ho and Seung-hi take some time to talk in private on the side. In-ho updates Seung-hi about Jeong-suk’s wish for a divorce which gives her some hope. She has no plans of giving up on In-ho and she wants him to be there for Eun-seo given that Eun-seo is his daughter. Seung-hi talks with Roy afterwards to thank him for solving the situation with Ji-seon. Though he claims that he did it as part of his responsibility as a doctor, Seung-hi thinks he had an underlying purpose or motive to his actions. He did it for someone else.

Jung-min continues to hear from his co-workers that it was a good thing he didn’t get sued by Ji-seon’s parents. But Jung-min isn’t relieved nor does he feel fine. The situation affected him a lot and he’s not okay. So So-ra cheers him up by showing him some ~love~ inside of a room and Jeong-suk catches the couple kissing each other after she spotted Jung-min entering the room. Jeong-suk panics and ponders on what to do. Hahaha. Meanwhile, Roy heads to the police station to register his DNA. There’s a low chance that he’ll find his biological parents but it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Jeong-suk continues to excel at her job. She checks in with her patients and gets along with them well. Meanwhile, Mom contacts Jeong-suk and asks her about being added to Jeong-suk’s health insurance plan. She’s going to quit her job since she hasn’t been feeling the greatest and her body has been wearing down on her. Later on that night, Jeong-suk prepares to complete a divorce application but she’s interrupted by another text from In-ho who once again delivers some snacks to her residence dorm. Jeong-suk then rushes out to her mom’s place and grows concerned when she finds her mom exhausted from the acupuncture appointment from earlier that day. The mother-daughter pair talk for a bit and Mom shares updates about her declining health to her daughter. But wait, what is Jeong-suk doing over at Mom’s place again? Is something up? But Jeong-suk pretends as if nothing’s wrong and she doesn’t share anything with Mom.

After meeting with several doctors, Mom is admitted into Jeong-suk’s university hospital. In-ho hears the news about Mom’s admittance into the hospital and he immediately visits Mom in her hospital room. He goes on to act kindly towards Mom and he even contacts some other professors to take care of his mother-in-law. Jeong-suk doesn’t buy into In-ho’s behavior and she’s still adamant on getting a divorce. She’s just holding off for now and they agree to not tell Jeong-suk’s mom about the news.

When Jeong-suk heads back to the Family Medicine department, she receives yet another gift from In-ho. This time, it’s an application to transfer the ownership of the house. This was something that Jeong-suk initially wanted and now her wish can finally come true. But Jeong-suk doesn’t care for the “gift” and she returns it back to In-ho. She repeats that it’s over between the two of them (yaaaas girl, stand your ground!). In-ho updates his mom about the situation regarding Jeong-suk’s mom so Mother-in-law stops by to visit Mom in the hospital. She attempts to paint her son in a positive light. After the brief visit, Mother-in-law bumps into Seung-hi in the hospital lobby so the two chat for a bit. Since Mother-in-law assumes that Seung-hi must have inherited a bunch of money from her late father, she changes her behavior towards Seung-hi and acts kindly to her. In-ho and Mother-in-law meet afterwards and they agree to take Jeong-suk’s mom out for some dinner. When was the last time In-ho’s done that? Speaking of Jeong-suk’s mom, Jung-min updates the two of them about the professor assigned to Mom. It’s none other than.. Seung-hi.

When Jeong-suk learns the news, she quickly heads to her mom’s room only to find Chief Lim and Seung-hi already inside. Mom’s impression of Seung-hi is kind and positive based on their interactions but Jeong-suk wants Mom to change her doctor. Seung-hi was In-ho’s girlfriend in college. Mom doesn’t think too much of it and she assumes Jeong-suk must be jealous. Why is Jeong-suk making this such a big deal? Of course, she doesn’t know the rest of the story regarding Seung-hi and In-ho so she assumes Jeong-suk is just overreacting. Seung-hi and Jeong-suk confront each other over Mom’s situation but Seung-hi has no plans in going anywhere. She’s going to remain as Mom’s doctor.

The next time Jeong-suk finds her mom in the hospital, Mom is seen spending time with Roy (EEEEEK!). Similar to Seung-hi, Mom is also glad to see Roy at the hospital and the two get along well. But the friendly conversation is cut short when In-ho witnesses the scene and he intervenes. He once again puts on an act in front of Mom and he proposes that they go out for some dinner that night. So dinner time arrives and the entire family plus Mom eat some barbecue at a restaurant. Things are going relatively smooth until In-ho becomes a bit playful and he shoots out some cash out of a toy gun as a way to show appreciation to Mom (I’m dyinggg). While everyone else picks up the cash around the room and on the table, Mother-in-law steps out for a bit. She then witnesses Professor Park grabbing dinner at the same restaurant with another lady so she approaches the two. Eventually, Mother-in-law gets into an altercation with Professor Park’s wife and they cause a scene out in the main lobby.

When Jeong-suk and the family step outside, they separate Professor Park’s wife from Mother-in-law. Professor Park’s wife accuses Mother-in-law of being a cheater just like her son – the one who had a love affair and raised a secret love child. Upon hearing the news, Mom asks Professor Park’s wife to repeat her comment because she’s in so much shock. Now Mom is also in on the news and she knows the truth about In-ho. But as if things weren’t bad enough, Seung-hi and Eun-seo enter the same exact restaurant right at that moment and everyone stares at one another in shock and confusion. It’s chaos to the max.

My Thoughts:

Oooooo, enough with all the secrets already! And just how much more chaos is going to ensue from all the secrets and withholding of information and pretending like everything is fine? But really, the ending to this episode was deja vu like how I-rang and Jung-min pointed out because it was similar to Jeong-suk’s birthday where they all hid a “secret” from Jeong-suk (which she already knew about). I understand why Jeong-suk and In-ho kept their divorce idea a secret from Mom but at the same time, let’s just be honest with each other and improve on our communication!
