Sometimes there are just some things that are out of your control and you have to accept them for what they are. Jeong-suk experiences this once again regarding some health concerns but will history repeat itself or will things be different this time around?

Doctor Cha: Episode 15 Recap

Jeong-suk checks in with Roy after coughing out some blood in the restroom at work. Roy updates Jeong-suk on her health and advises that she be hospitalized as soon as possible to start receiving treatment. Since she forgot to take her medication a few times, her health deteriorated rather quickly. Jeong-suk worries how much of a burden and inconvenience her absence may cause for the other residents and employees but she has no choice. She should take care of herself first. Roy receives a visit from his biological sister at the hospital who asks him about the bone marrow donation for their biological father. She’s desperate and she’s willing to compensate Roy with as much money as he wants. Roy is in disbelief at the audacity.

Roy meets with So-ra and asks her to help set up a medical check-up for him. So-ra does as Roy asks but seems a bit suspicious about the situation. Meanwhile, Mother-in-law gets into some financial trouble when she discovers that the hospital that she invested money in with Professor Park turned out to be a scam after all. Professor Park proceeds to cut off all contact with Mother-in-law and Mother-in-law has to report to the police station. During lunch, Seung-hi is invited to eat lunch with the rest of the Family Medicine department but she changes her mind upon seeing Jeong-suk at the same table. While she leaves, Jeong-suk takes some time to thank the other first-year residents, Do-gyum and Chae-yoon, and tells them how much she appreciates them. Their conversation is interrupted with yet another scene caused by Chief Lim and Chief Yoon, haha.

In-ho takes a break from work to go with his mom to consult with a lawyer. She’s curious about how much Jeong-suk would get from a divorce with In-ho (in which Jeong-suk would get half of the assets). She’s also advised to sell the building that Mother-in-law purchased under Jeong-suk’s name as she could go to jail for doing such a thing. So In-ho’s mother urges In-ho to reveal the truth to Jeong-suk about the building and then to sell it afterwards. When Jeong-suk and In-ho meet to talk about the building, Jeong-suk admits that she already knew about it. But she has no plans in selling it so In-ho and Mother-in-law should find another way to get back the money that Mother-in-law borrowed from her friend to invest in the hospital.

Stressed, Mother-in-law visits Mom’s house intoxicated. She’s had a little too much to drink and she goes crazy. Mother-in-law ends up spending the night at Mom’s house and the two ladies have some breakfast the next morning. Mother-in-law admits that she won’t be able to live without Jeong-suk but Mom notes that Jeong-suk went through a lot because of Mother-in-law. As In-ho and Jeong-suk’s parents, all they should do is just sit back and let their kids handle their own problems.

Jeong-suk interacts with her last patient, an elderly grandma named Lee Pan-sim, before she is to go on a brief break. After studying Grandma Lee’s scans, Jeong-suk updates her family about Grandma Lee’s status. Mother-in-law is still stressed about the money she has to pay back her friend and it doesn’t help that In-ho received a visit at work from Mother-in-law’s friend herself. So Mother-in-law suggests that In-ho asks Seung-hi for some money. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Jeong-suk is confronted by Grandma Lee’s guardians for trying to save Grandma Lee’s life. Her guardians were expecting her to leave peacefully but instead, Jeong-suk got some scans done and diagnosed Grandma Lee’s health. When she checks in with Grandma Lee, Grandma Lee is shocked to find that she’s still alive. She’s peacefully waiting for the day that it’s her time to leave. Jeong-suk meets with Chief Lim to discuss her leave of absence situation. She’s aware of how much of an inconvenience this may cause the other residents but she feels it’s necessary to treat her health first. Chief Lim can’t answer with confidence when she asks if there will still be a spot for her as a resident even if she were to take a leave of absence. Chief Lim updates the rest of the professors in the Family Medicine department about Jeong-suk’s situation including Seung-hi. They discuss whether Jeong-suk should be reinstated when she returns or if she should resign instead.

Roy meets with Jeong-suk to deliver some good news: he’s willing to donate his liver to Jeong-suk. Jeong-suk is shocked at the news and she grows hesitant to accept his help. It was such a big decision for even In-ho to make so Roy should consider it a little bit more carefully. But Roy is confident and certain that this is what he wants. Jeong-suk is a good friend and colleague to him and he wants to see her healthy. So with that, he advises Jeong-suk to prepare for her treatment. Later on that night, she takes all of her belongings in the residents’ office with her back home.

In-ho meets with Seung-hi to ask for money. But he’s nervous and he imagines a few situations where he asks to borrow some money but she rejects him. Haha. Since In-ho can’t seem to bring up his situation, Seung-hi decides to do the talking instead. She informs him about Jeong-suk’s leave of absence from the hospital. Jeong-suk is sick again and she might need to consider getting another liver transplant. Seung-hi acknowledges that she and In-ho should take responsibility; their actions may have contributed to this situation. Speaking of Jeong-suk, she cooks some dinner for her mom as well as I-rang and Jung-min at her mom’s house. There, she updates them all about her health condition and the possibility of receiving another transplant. They’re worried and surprised at the news but Jeong-suk reassures them that everything will be fine and that she’ll recover. They shouldn’t worry too much.

In-ho reflects on his behavior and attitude towards Jeong-suk and feels incredibly guilty for the way that he treated her. So he decides to make things up by visiting Roy the next day at work and asking for a breakdown of Jeong-suk’s health. He also agrees to donate his liver to Jeong-suk if needed. Though it may be a little late, In-ho believes it’s better late than never. Once Jeong-suk is admitted into the hospital, In-ho visits Jeong-suk in her hospital room and expresses his concern for her. He’ll even donate his liver to her if she needs it. But Jeong-suk doesn’t buy any of his words and she refuses to trust him. In-ho pleads for forgiveness once again and begs Jeong-suk to give him one more chance. Unlike the other times, Jeong-suk begins to tear up at the sight of In-ho getting emotional. It’s over between them. What’s the point of donating his liver to her now when he didn’t do it the first time around or didn’t care about her during their marriage? She blames herself for her situation and frees In-ho of any blame or guilt. All of this is her fault and not his.

Roy checks in with Jeong-suk in her hospital room and Jeong-suk notes that she can see the funeral home for the university hospital from her window. But unlike what Roy assumed, Jeong-suk doesn’t feel bad or nervous. Instead, she feels content and at peace with her life. She was able to do what she wanted and saw her two kids grow up as well. She doesn’t feel sad at all. Since Jeong-suk’s tests will start the next day, Roy gives Jeong-suk a chance to try anything that she’s wanted to do before she is to undergo treatment. Right as Jeong-suk is about to ask Roy for a favor, she spots Seung-hi passing by her hospital room and the two go out for a talk on the rooftop. Jeong-suk reflects on her relationship with Seung-hi and what things would have been like between them if they were never in this situation. They would have maybe shared meals with each other and become good friends. Seung-hi apologizes to Jeong-suk and Jeong-suk accepts it. She thought she wouldn’t need to hear it but at last, it’s better than nothing. So with that, Jeong-suk wishes to be at peace and she hopes Seung-hi feels similarly.

In-ho takes a break in the men’s restroom at work. While coming up with a text message to Jeong-suk, he overhears Jung-min chatting with another resident about Roy’s special request for So-ra. They assume Roy got a medical check-up because he wanted to know if he could donate his liver to Jeong-suk or not. It was his way of showing that he cared about Jeong-suk and is his way of showing his affection for her. In-ho is flustered and angry at the news and he confronts Roy who’s at a motorcycle store. Lol. How dare Roy want to donate his liver to Jeong-suk? He should be the one donating his liver to his wife, not Roy. Eventually, Jeong-suk makes her appearance and she’s asked to choose between the two guys. Which guy would she want to donate their liver? So Jeong-suk gives it a thought and prepares to point at the person who she’s chosen. Roy and In-ho eagerly wait for Jeong-suk’s answer, in hopes that they’re the person who Jeong-suk’s selected.
