I don’t even know how to write this post. Worst yet, I don’t even want to write it. However, I feel like it is my duty as a Light (Highlight’s fanclub name) and recapper of ‘Let’s Eat 3’ to update y’all about this.

If you haven’t heard already, Highlight’s Doojoon who’s also currently starring as the lead in drama ‘Let’s Eat 3’ will be enlisting for his military service this Friday, August 24. The announcement came as a quick surprise to both him, the other Highlight members, staff from his company, and many others. Originally requested to enter but ultimately denied by the police department, Doojoon will be serving in the military as an active duty soldier as soon as this Friday, August 24 and be released in April 2020. Doojoon released a long heart-felt letter to his fans which you can read here:

With Doojoon’s sudden enlistment, ‘Let’s Eat 3’ will be shortened from 16 episodes to 14. Doojoon will finish filming for the last few episodes with as much time as he has left before leaving for his military service as an active duty soldier. Though cut short by two episodes, hopefully the drama will wrap up fine and everything will end well for all our characters (and as usual, you can expect recaps to the finale of the drama from me).

Time really passes by so fast doesn’t it? I knew the day was going to eventually come and that members from my top bias group will one day enlist in the military. However, now that the time has come, it’s still such a shock to me and I’m incredibly saddened by the news. I’ve always had warm memories of Doojoon and he’s someone that I incredibly love, support, care about, and respect. He’s worked non-stop this entire year with Highlight activities and concerts to drama ‘Radio Romance’ to now this season of ‘Let’s Eat 3.’ He truly is such a hard-working man and it’s unfortunate that the timing to all of this has ended on such a bad and short notice.

Doojoon probably won’t be able to spend much time with his family, friends, and members before leaving for his military service. In all honesty, I was dreading for the day that his military enlistment was going to be announced. I knew it was going to arrive sometime this year as other 1989-ers had already enlisted (INFINITE’s Sunggyu). However, I didn’t expect it to happen like this and I am definitely not prepared to bid farewell to Doojoon. He’s the first of five Highlight members to leave for the military and I think nothing I do will ever prepare me for these farewells. I’m going to have to do this for four more members and it’s going to hurt every time. However, the good thing about all of this is that the Highlight members are close in age so they’ll probably enlist around the same time and also be released around similar dates. The next two years will definitely not be easy and it’s going to feel very long and I’m going to miss Doojoon so dearly much, but I know he’ll be safe and do great. Here’s to hoping he’ll finish his military service safely and goodly.
